<p>Food from the Heart is an IPC-status food bank dedicated to nourishing the lives of the less fortunate in our community. Originating from the heartfelt dedication of Singapore-based Austrian couple Henry and Christine Laimer, our organisation was founded in February 2003. The Laimers moved to action after learning about the rampant bread wastage occurring while numerous families struggled with hunger. They sought to channel surplus food from bakeries directly to those in dire need, thereby making a substantial impact on food waste reduction.</p>
<p>As a food charity organisation in Singapore, we play an essential role in addressing food insecurity, creating an impact that extends beyond mere sustenance to <a href="https://www.foodfromtheheart.sg/help-needy-families/">help families in need</a>. Today, our food distribution programmes go beyond our bread runs and are run with a sustainable charity in mind. This means that we are committed to providing continued food security to our beneficiaries for as long as they need it. </p>
<h2>The State of Food Insecurity in Singapore </h2>
<p>The Hunger Report, co-commissioned by Singapore Management University's Lien Centre for Social Innovation, found that in 2020, 10.4% of surveyed households faced food insecurity at least once within a 12-month period. Even with improvements seen by 2022, 45.8% of respondents reported no change in their situation, and 10.2% found their circumstances worsening amidst the pandemic. This shows how important it is to continue tackling the issue of food insecurity till every individual can access reliable, nutritious meals consistently. This is where our charity steps in, extending our hand to those struggling with food insecurity, making us a central figure in the fight against hunger in Singapore.</p>
<h2>Recognised among charities in Singapore working towards a social good</h2>
<p>Since we began in 2003, Food from the Heart has been committed to alleviating food insecurity and reducing food waste in Singapore. Our programmes, such as Bread Run, School Goodie Bag and Market Place, demonstrate our dedication to the less fortunate, from children to the elderly. We work closely with local schools, grassroots organisations, family service centres, senior activity centres, and charities islandwide, including Boys' Town and Ren Ci Nursing Home, collectively addressing the concerns of food insecurity in Singapore. With support from partners like NTUC FairPrice Co-operative Ltd and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited, we are able to continue our mission to care for the underprivileged. Our sustainable operations model, structured governance and strong support also make us one of the most well-run food banks and charity organisations in Singapore.</p>
<h2>How can you help?</h2>
<p>As a leading food charity in Singapore, we have formed a network of partnerships that connects those looking to help and those who are less fortunate. We are grateful for the support of recognised corporations, organisations and individuals who have come forward from their respective fields and professions to join us on our mission to feed communities in need. An independent, homegrown charity in our second decade, with the help of over 10,000 volunteers, we were able to provide sustainable food security with $7.4 million worth of food to almost 60,000 beneficiaries in 2023.</p>
<p>Here's how you can help:</p>
<h3>Make a Tax-Deductible Donation</h3>
<p>As a recognised IPC charity in Singapore, you can claim tax relief for the cash donations you make to our organisation. For every donation, you are eligible for a tax deduction that is 2.5 times the value of your donation. You can also view our <a href="/about/financials-reports">latest financial reports</a> online to understand how your donations have helped our beneficiaries.</p>
<h3>Volunteer with us</h3>
<p>Eager to make a difference in our community? You can join us as a corporate volunteer, youth volunteer, or as an individual! <h3>Make an In-Kind Donation</h3>
<p>Your <a href="https://www.foodfromtheheart.sg/in-kind-donations">in-kind donation</a> can make a difference. </p>
<p>We welcome food donations at our office from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 6pm. Alternatively, you may also choose to order food from online grocery platforms such as FairPrice and RedMart, and arrange for direct delivery to our office. For convenience, we have a donation box outside our office for non-perishable food items, which can be dropped off even when our office is closed. </p>

"reviewBody": "Came here as part of my company’s volunteer program. First time coming to this food distribution charity. It was pretty easy to locate as it was only a 10 minute easy walk from Tai Seng MRT station. When we first arrived, we were introduced to the company with a simple introductory corporate video introducing about the charity and who it provides for. Thereafter, the program leader for our time slot informed us what exactly to do. To put labels on all the designated food items which has been accounted for for the number of recipients, and after that to pack up the items. It was very systematic and well organized. The program leader was also there for the whole duration of the volunteer session to ensure the items were packed properly and placed them neatly at the pallet for further distribution. After all the food was packed up, the staff ensured it was packed up for further transportation for the distribution to the recipients at their location. The organization style was impeccable and the space for the food storage was very clean indeed. I would definitely look forward to my next volunteer visit to Food from the Heart.",
